Marielle Bravo Cabasag residing from Maguilling Piat, Cagayan, is a 22-year-old daughter of a laborer working for the Cagayan Robina Sugar Milling Company (CaRSuMCo). She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a Major in General Curriculum Program from the Cagayan State University (CSU) with merit for garnering a high general percentage average.
Living in a low-income family, Marielle strives to reach for her dreams. She came one step closer to her dream when DOLE Region 2 granted her a scholarship under the Workers Organization Development Program (WODP) through his father’s organization CaRSuMCo from 2018 to 2022
Marielle receives a stipend amounting to P17,500 per semester with book allowance. In the advent of pandemic where there is a decrease in economic activity that greatly affects laborers that also led for the education setup to shift online, the stipend she received from DOLE greatly helped her to procure necessary gadgets to help her with her education.
Provincial focal person for Labor Relations Ms. Gloria Alvarado stressed that the WODP Educational Grant or Isabelo delos Reyes (IDR) scholarship is one of the flagship programs of the DOLE that provides educational opportunities to union officers and members, including their dependents, and offers greater productivity, prosperity, and welfare to the employer and workers’ organization
Now, Marielle is closer to her dreams as she is currently enrolled for an 8-month review to prepare for the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers.
“I am forever grateful to DOLE Region 02 for the scholarship opportunity in my 4 years in college and I promise to be of help soon to other unfortunate students once I become a professional Teacher,” Marielle said in closing. ###
